I created this piece near the end of the cicada Brood X 17-year lifecycle in 2021. As I walked the city sidewalks listening to their fading song, my eyes were captivated by the glistening beauty of hundreds of wings. The last remnants of their life on earth blanketing the streets. I collected a small handful with the hope of creating this piece, a window into their understanding of time, traditions, and transformation. I felt privileged to witness their life.
